The BrainPort balance device is a device designed to aid in balance training for people with chronic vestibular disorders.
Dr. Bach-y-Rita established Wicab, Inc. in 1998. Mr. Robert Beckman became the President and CEO of Wicab in December 2004. The company is located in Middleton, WI. The BrainPort balance device is available commercially in Canada through LifeMark Health clinics.
Aside from commercialization of the BrainPort balance device, Wicab, Inc. is developing and testing the BrainPort vision device, a visual prosthesis for the blind and visually impaired. Further commercial opportunities for the BrainPort technology include navigation in environments that deprive use of typical sensory inputs and unique video game enhancements.
