Wicab, Inc. is focused on commercialization, research, and development of the BrainPort balance device, a device designed to aid in balance training for people with chronic vestibular disorders.
Dr. Bach-y-Rita established Wicab, Inc. in 1998. Mr. Robert Beckman became the President and CEO of Wicab in December 2004. The U.S. headquarters of the company are located in Middleton, WI. The company’s satellite offices are located in Aartselaar, Belgium and Sao Paulo, Brazil. Distribution of the BrainPort balance devices and training of medical staff are provided by Wicab’s distributors and Physical Therapists in multiple countries and regions of Canada, the European Union and Latin America.
Aside from commercialization of the BrainPort balance device, Wicab, Inc. is developing and testing the BrainPort vision device, a visual prosthesis for the blind and visually impaired. Further commercial opportunities for the BrainPort technology include navigation in environments that deprive use of typical sensory inputs and unique video game enhancements.
